Within
easy driving distance from us there are some nationally
famous old houses, castles and gardens, some
of which belong to the National Trust.
Additionally there are some of more local fame waiting for you to discover them. These are all open to the public, though some may have restricted opening times.
There are also numerous nursery gardens, some of which house national plant collections.
We keep a stock of relevent leaflets for visitors and can help with directions.
Current Garden RHS Rosemoor Close to Torrington, about 70 mins from us: mid Oct 07: still a lot to see in this immaculately kept RHS garden. the photo below was taken between this week's Two Moors Music Festival conerts there this week.

KILLERTON HOUSE AND GARDEN Between Tiverton and Exeter, about 40 minutes car from us: An attractive eighteenth century house set in fine verdant parkland grounds tucked into the hillside with fine wide lawns, magnificent trees and numerous other features. At the moment the wisterias, rhododendrons and azaleas are very impressive.

For
those who like visiting gardens and looking at older houses and buildings, a
quiet amble through some of Exmoor's villages is very rewarding. In this
small national park, you may discover some small
nurseries and various private gardens that may be open, e.g. as part of the
National Gardens Scheme. Many of Exmoor's old houses
have interesting features and histories, e.g. the old boundary houses of earlier
estates. Don't forget its old churches!
Exmoor's open country shelters seasonal wild flowers and interesting plants, some in profusion, e.g. snowdrops in Snowdrop Valley, near Wheddon Cross, primroses, wild daffodils and bluebills as well as rarer plants such as sundew and pale butterwort.
