For those who like visiting gardens and looking at older houses and buildings, a quiet amble through some of Exmoor's villages is very rewarding.  In this small national park, you may discover some small nurseries and various private gardens that may be open, e.g. as part of the National Gardens Scheme.  Many of Exmoor's old houses have interesting features and histories, e.g. the old boundary houses of earlier estates.  Don't forget its old churches!

Exmoor's open country shelters seasonal wild flowers and interesting plants, some in profusion, e.g. snowdrops in Snowdrop Valley, near Wheddon Cross, primroses, wild daffodils and bluebills as well as rarer plants such as sundew and pale butterwort.
